Under 18s Botox ban, is it too late for the Instagram generation?

Don’t get us wrong, we love social media. It’s great being able to connect with you all and being able to support other independent businesses. And who doesn’t love a bit of reality tv?! We’re first to confess that we do! But sadly these platforms, as we all know, do have their drawbacks.   One of the downsides is the immense pressure people feel when they compare themselves to someone else after seeing them online or on the telly. A high number of viewers sadly are our children, who scroll through heavily airbrushed photos that celebrities post and then end up wishing that they could have higher cheekbones, fuller lips or cat-like eyes too.   This behaviour has caused a movement over the last few years which has been a surge in teenagers seeking tweakments. In fact, more than 41,000 procedures were carried out on those under 18 last year alone! Yes, you read that correctly!   Not only this but a lot of the work was carried out by cowboys, who are not medically qualified or experienced, which has in turn seen some horrific botched outcomes such as blood clots and partial blindness to necrosis in the facial tissue.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are injections of hyaluronic acid. HA is able to store moisture and is responsible for your skin’s plumpness and glow. It is usually topically applied but when injected it can restore loss of volume and replenish the hydration lost from diminishing collagen and elastin, which depletes with age. We are proud that our dermal fillers are FDA approved – Juvéderm, Restylane Teosayl, Profhilo. Our medical team can provide the most up to date injectable techniques, including Juvéderm MD codes and Profhilo. To learn more about each product please visit our website Where can I have Dermal Fillers? Dermal Fillers are suitable for different parts of the face – the eye area, cheeks, mouth and jawline, as well as in the lips. You can also have it on the neck, chest and hands. Does it hurt and will people know that I’ve had it done? Fine microneedles are used which therefore makes the procedure generally pain-free. Some patients do prefer to have numbing cream which is topically applied pre-appointment. The injections only take a few minutes, and in most cases, the areas won’t be noticeable so you can carry on as normal that day. When will I see results

The truth about facials

In this latest blog post, Ruth dispels some facial myths and tells you the honest truth about our No.6 treatments. On a daily basis we find ourselves educating our clients on beauty treatment misconceptions and how the media can turn a perfectly safe, results driven treatment (when performed by a trained aesthician) into something from a horror movie. We thought we would share some of our most common FAQ’s about advanced facials, so you can make an informed decision about whether they are the right treatment for you. (Although this is a general Q&A, we offer complimentary 30 minute consultations in house so we can establish which of our facials would be best suited for each individual) Q: Peels are painful, I’ll turn tomato-red and all my skin is going to fall off (think Samantha in Sex and the city) A: We offer peels in many different strengths, depending on your skin’s tolerance, how long you have been using advanced products for and what results you are hoping to achieve. Some of our peels are even suitable for clients who have very sensitive skin and rosacea. If it’s your first facial with us, and you’re a skin care novice, we

What are microcurrent facial treatments?

Microccurent facials, often called ‘natural’ or ‘non-surgical’ facelifts, offers a work out for your entire face. It’s suitable for clients looking for anti-aging results, and can also be used as a preventative, so it’s suitable for all ages and skin types*.The machine emits low-voltage currents (hence the micro) simulating your body’s own electrical rhythm, increasing cellular activity, stimulating collagen and elastin production, improving muscle tone, reducing puffiness and plumping fine lines and wrinkles. This amazing treatment requires NO downtime, so you are free to continue your day as usual, with visible results after the first treatment.During the facial, your therapist will carry out a traditional manual cleanse, then use the Microcurrent machine for the second cleanse. This starts to break down the skins natural electrically resistant barrier, helping the treatment become more effective (don’t worry, it gets restored back to it’s original state at the end).Once the skin it suitably prepped, the lifting phase 1 begins. On your first visit your therapist will use the lowest voltage and gradually build up the intensity over the facial course. They will work methodically across the face with two small metal probes, using specially developed movements to achieve optimal results. The whole lifting

DermaQuest Facial Skincare for New Mums

As if the influx of hormones and anti-social wake-up calls aren’t enough, nature decides it’s time for the FREEZING weather to make an appearance! One things for sure, my pregnancy glow has long gone! However, thanks to smitten grandparents, I managed to wangle myself a little time to go and enjoy a PowerFacial at No.6! I cannot tell you how blissful it was to be pampered with a Dermaquest Pumpkin Peel, followed by time under the warmth of the Omnilux Light AND to top it off Ruth sent me in to heaven with a relaxing massage. Having had this facial may times before, I know that my skin will see the benefits for months! Plumper, hydrated, exfoliated…just to name a few! But it wasn’t just about the skincare. It was about Kayleigh, someone I haven’t prioritised for a while. To me, self-care is really about nourishing and caring for ourselves… as I do for little Zélie. That gem of an hour was all I needed to recharge, that hour was for me. Now…where’s that muslin?!
